Drawing and sketching
Students practise lines, shapes, shading, proportion and composition. Projects may include cartoons, still life and other guided drawing work. These basics help students plan a picture and show its main forms and details.
Painting and colour
Painting lessons introduce colour mixing, brush control, texture, contrast and acrylic techniques. Students use these skills in class projects. Materials for regular projects are included.
Creative projects
Students take part in seasonal, themed and skill-based projects. A project gives them a clear starting point, while leaving room for personal choices. Teachers guide students as they work through the steps.
How the classes work
Classes meet weekly for 60 minutes in small groups. Students do not need previous art experience. OPSMA groups students by age and current schedule. See details for ages 5–7 and children ages 7–11, or read about the separate drawing and painting pages.
Class fee and first visit
Regular group art classes cost $25 for 60 minutes. Families may book one free trial class before deciding on monthly enrollment. Contact OPSMA to confirm openings and ask what to expect on the first day. See the first-class guide for more details.
